Overview:

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant position on music information retrieval and music signal processing, with a particular focus on knowledge and implementation of the existing state of the art, and real world applications. The responsibilities also include engaging with industry, disseminating results and working in a team of researchers.

The role is concerned with developing new music informatics models, taking existing models and improving them, assessing performance and usability, and demonstrating results, ideally for use in a service. A focus of the work involves establishing measures of how well individual musical elements within a composition will match each other. Core elements of the work are: adapt and improve existing music informatics methods; develop, test or demonstrate new music informatics methods; assess performance and quality objectively and subjectively; and produce demonstrators and demonstrate results to a wide audience. For this, knowledge of and experience with musical signal processing, including audio programming, and related fields, is required.

The ideal candidate will have an Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science, Electric/Electronic Engineering or a related topic. Good programming experience and working knowledge of audio signal analysis and processing is desirable, plus experience in one or more of the following areas: music information retrieval, high tech entrepreneurship, signal processing, audio engineering, evaluation or human-computer interaction is essential.

The post is part time fixed term contract for 21 hours per week (0.6fte) and is available immediately until 30 April 21. Starting salary will be £31,613 (pro rata), inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave (pro rata) and pension scheme.
