Harmonies from Classical Memories
Following the previous sell-out concert, Harmonies from Classical Melodies returns for a performance at St. George's Church, Bloomsbury.
This is a rare opportunity to experience the legacy of African Classical Music and its message for a 'common humanity'. The programme features the Singing Cultures Choir accompanied by dynamic pianist Kevin Satizabal. The choir's repertoire will include songs by African composers, African folksongs and new songs capturing choristers' aspirations for a "better world". There will also be solo performances by acclaimed soprano Victoria Oruwari, and internationally renowned flautist Rowland Sutherland.

I, Dido

Monday 5th June 1780. As rioting continues to rage in London, a unique Bloomsbury family faces some home truths. I, Dido recounts the story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, the daughter of a Navy Captain and a black slave. Raised in the home of one of Britain's greatest judges, Lord Mansfield, Dido was witness to the beginning of the abolitionist movement.
Following the success of Emma in September last year, DOT Productions returns to St George's Bloomsbury for the premiere of I, Dido. Commissioned by St George's Bloomsbury and written by Non Vaughan-Thomas, the play recounts a dramatic episode in the life of Dido Elizabeth Belle, an illegitimate mixed race woman rescued from slavery as a child, adopted by Lord Mansfield and baptised at St George's Bloomsbury.

The South London Lettering Association will be demonstrating a variety of calligraphic scripts in the church, in a quiet and contemplative atmosphere alongside have-a-go lettering sessions in our Upper Vestry Hall.
