Dear Patrons, supporters and music-lovers,
Greetings from all in the choir; we would like to share with you our news in the build up to our busiest time of the year.
Our spring concert coincided with lent and gave us the opportunity to sing, amongst other pieces, Poulenc's wonderful Four motets for the season of lent and Allegri's Misereri mei, Deus. We dedicated this concert to HealthProm (www.healthprom.org), a charity that works to support vulnerable children and their families in Afghanistan, Central Asia and Russia. We were very gratified to raise money for their work to keep babies out of orphanages in Tajikistan and thank you all who contributed.
Our summer concert 'Sing Away' takes place on Friday, 17th June at 7.30pm in our usual venue, St George's Bloomsbury. Our repertoire will include Verdi's Pater Noster, an extract from William Byrd's Mass for Four Voices, and music by Walton, Gibbons and Elgar. We are delighted to be joined at this concert by a special guest choir, the 'VOCOSingapore Ladies Choir', who will sing music from the Asian and Western world. We do hope you can join us.
After our summer concert, there is just time to pack our bags before we set off on a summer tour to Northern Italy, our second such tour as the guests of the Collegium Vocale di Crema and the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan. It will be our privilege and our joy to perform music from the English, Russian and Italian sacred and secular repertoire in Mantua, Crema, Lodi and Milan, where Verdi and Monteverdi worked and performed. We anticipate large appreciative audiences, as on our previous tour here, and look forward to sharing wonderful music.
We will post updates on our Facebook and Twitter (@ULCCuk) pages so make sure you like and follow us!
A highlight for the choir and audiences is performing works written by our patrons. This year our repertoire includes works by Janet Wheeler and Colin Sell, and we are currently rehearsing a new work by Natalie, one of our altos!
Thank you so much for your support throughout the year and for attending our concerts; it means a lot to us. We hope to see you on 17th June, or even in Italy!
