Inc. has been retained by Little Kids Rock to conduct a search for a
National Program Director. Little Kids Rock (LKR) is a non-profit
organization based in Cedar Grove, NJ (just outside NYC) which brings
modern rock music instruction and free instruments to public schools
with high concentrations of low-income students. They currently reach
more than 78,000 children in grades K-12 in eleven states. Through
partnerships with school districts, LKR is able to work with teachers
to train them on its innovative curriculum-which is built around rock,
pop, rap, hip-hop, funk, blues and reggae-and supply them with
instruments in order to inspire young people and support their
students' self-expression, self-confidence and creativity.
The National Program Director will be responsible for establishing new
high-level relationships with school district administrators, as well
as nurturing existing relationships to foster program growth and
improvement. He/she will be responsible for setting the vision and
action plan for the training of teachers, and for managing a budget
and the program staff.
The ideal candidate will be an inspirational, charismatic educator
with the ability to build high-level relationships within public
school districts. He/she will have exceptionally strong interpersonal
and communication skills. Experience with classroom teaching or
administration within a public school system, as well as non-profit
management experience is highly desirable. The individual should be
at least proficient on guitar, electric bass, drums or electronic
keyboards. A master's or doctoral degree is preferred, and formal
academic pedigree in some aspect of music will be considered a plus.
